![]() ![]() ![]() Ki-rins almost always avoided combat unless faced with most evil creatures. Ki-rins could enter the Astral and Ethereal planes at will. Upon ki-rin's death, all of these effects dispersed while the boons granted to creatures and plants in the area remained for three following years. Negative effects of curses, poisons, and diseases were temporarily lifted from good creatures, and if they were to fall from dangerous heights, ki-rin's winds protected them from harm, letting them gently descent to the ground. The aura of ki-rin's home affected good-aligned creatures giving them strength and health, and it scared evil-aligned creatures away. When evildoers attempted to corrupt the waters magically or physically, the waters returned to their purified state within three minutes. Their celestial presence purified all running water within three miles of the lairs. ![]() The ki-rin's power was so great that it affected areas outside their homes. Any air-related effects, spells, or items created were of a more powerful or sturdy variety. A ki-rin could use each of these abilities once a day. Īpart from their powerful innate spellcasting abilities, ki-rins could create food and water for up to twenty four individuals, create permanent soft goods or wooden items, create metallic items that disintegrated within two to five days (including adamantine items that lasted for about one hour), assume gaseous form, cast wind walk, call lightning, and summon weather. It caused them to feel pain and burning sensation as if splashed with acid. Ki-rins, like many other creatures of good from the Upper Planes, were affected by unholy water. Ki-rins had an ability to create supremely realistic illusions with auditory, visual, and olfactory elements. Ki-rins could fly without wings, and they had several other powerful spell-like innate abilities, including the ability to read the minds of those around them. Although generous and not prone to greed, ki-rins accumulated treasures, some of which were created by other celestial beings and others of which were trophies and trinkets, mementos from villainous foes they had defeated. Ki-rins rarely touched the ground, and were often found soaring through the skies in search of evil to smite and good deeds to be done. Most had a spiral horn which, like their hooves, was pinkish-copper in color, but some had two horns, or even deer-like antlers. Some looked like giant unicorns while others were more draconic, and they could also vary in size, with some being as large as elephants. The overall appearance of ki-rins varied depending on the power they served. They normally had deep violet eyes and melodious voices. Their shimmering scales and/or fur gave them the appearance of being ablaze in magical light when ki-rins were in flight. They often had thick manes of golden hair regardless. ![]() They had stag-like bodies, but were covered in golden scales instead of fur, although some were known to have golden or velvety blue fur. Vox Machina faced and deafeted the empyrean to retrieve his soul.Ki-rins were similar to unicorns in some respects, as both were noble equine creatures with a single horn. In 812 PD, the empyrean was bound by the Deck of Many Things to the Howler's Crag in the Cocytus of the Pandemonium with the direction to guard Grog's soul trapped in a ruby. Both the environment combined with the feeling of abandonment by his father lead him to madness and defet to "something evil had hold of him and has slowly been eating away at its mind" for millennium that followed. Before he could retrieve his son from Pandemonium, the god was challenged and destroyed by his mortal follower and partner, who became known as the Raven Queen. The Forgotten Empyrean had been the "half-son" of the Raven Queen's predecessor, punished by the god of death who banished him to the plane of Pandemonium. The Forgotten Empyrean had three legendary actions per round.Multiattack: The Forgotten Empyrean can make two maul attacks in a 15 foot cone dealing bludgeoning damage.He wielded a massive hammer glowing with red runes and burning with flames. He wore bracers and an armor piece around his midsection. The Forgotten Empyrean was about 25 feet tall and his corrupted body was jet black, eyes vibrant red, a pair of horns grew at the top of his head, and four large, spider leg-like appendages protruded from its back out of its shoulder blades and lower back. Empyreans are children of gods, usually beautiful and ageless. ![]()
